Apartment Design for Senior Living at Morada Albuquerque

Morada Albuquerque, located in Albuquerque, NM, sits on Indian School Road, just minutes from the city's fantastic shopping opportunities. However, for those who have not yet transitioned into senior living communities, the prospect of making such a change may be nerve-wracking. After all, more than 70% of adults over the age of 50 would not want to move out of their homes.
That said, we have done everything possible to ensure that we incorporate positive apartment design philosophies in our senior assisted living and memory care community. Below, we outline the steps we have taken to ensure that those staying with us can enjoy a better quality of life and rest assured of an enhanced experience every single day.
Why Our Apartment Design Is Beneficial to Seniors
When we designed our Morada Albuquerque community, we planned for each suite to enjoy the best that we have to offer. For example, every single apartment or suite has access to a window, allowing for direct sunlight every day of the year.
At the same time, we design and position each of our suites to have ample space within them to allow not only for customization and the movement of furniture to meet a resident's needs, but also to offer routes to move through the spaces should a resident need to use a wheelchair, walking aid, or any other support.
It's not only the general space that we have taken into account, however. Even the features in a single room ensure that people feel both safe and secure as they move around.
On each of the doors, we chose to forgo rounded knobs. Instead, we use lever-style door handles that allow residents to easily grip them, especially those with arthritis or other joint issues. Similarly, cabinets and drawers use handles that allow for something as simple as a curled finger to access, rather than small knobs that require a precise grip.
Our flooring also offers low-pile carpet and wood-style vinyl flooring, depending on the specific room. These have been chosen to ensure that residents do not need to perform a great deal of work to keep their space clean and tidy. Even if they take advantage of our pet-friendly nature, they can expect that the carpet will be easy to clean of hair, while the bathroom floor is easy to remove stray litter from.
Five Design Details You May Notice Day One
We have ensured that we maintain a consistent design philosophy throughout our community, which helps create a genuine sense of belonging. The following are some of the key features that we are particularly proud of.
1. Color Choices Reflecting Our Nature
Many of our suites, as well as our communal areas, share the same palette, allowing you to feel like you're part of the larger group from the moment you arrive. While we encourage people to decorate their own spaces, this base color set ensures that you will feel at home whenever you leave your suite.
2. Safer Bathrooms and Comfortable Temperatures
Within our bathrooms, the walk-in showers feature seating to ensure that every washing routine you engage in is as comfortable as possible. When entering and leaving the shower, you can also have the assurance of safety due to the presence of both a grab bar for stability and a roll-in shower edge. Even if you use a wheelchair, you can access the shower without worrying about an uncomfortable bump.
We also offer direct access to the suite's HVAC system, enabling residents to set a temperature in their apartment that matches their personal preferences. If you need to learn how to use it, a member of staff can help with the basics.
3. Emergency Alert Systems
Our thoughtful aging-in-place design includes emergency alert systems, allowing residents to contact our response staff 24/7. Simply pull the switch or cord, and our staff will come directly to you to ensure you are okay.
Only around one in ten Americans aged 65 or older has access to these, according to American Alarm and Communications Inc., offering a level of safety that may not be found elsewhere.
4. Simple Sight Lines for Memory Care Floor Plans
If you or a loved one chooses to live in our Memory Care suites, then we have ensured that you will be able to see as much of the apartment as possible from the sofa. Doing this prevents difficulties surrounding not knowing who may be in your living space at any time, as well as offering the ability to see the bathroom from the moment you stand up.
Similarly, the bathroom is conveniently located right next to the bedroom in all of our senior-friendly layouts, providing easy access to those who may need it but have forgotten where it is.
5. Kitchen Access for Assisted Living Apartments
To enable the highest level of independence possible in our accessible living spaces, residents staying with us have access to a fridge, stovetop, sink, and storage space, allowing them to enjoy a home-cooked meal as often as they like. At the same time, they or those in Memory Care may choose to utilize our Elevate dining options, spending each meal socializing and savoring a nutritious and delicious meal.
The inclusion of a kitchen or kitchenette can also help when family or friends decide to come for a visit. They can bring some ingredients, and you can make an event of the whole meal. Activities like these are often extremely popular around Christmas and Thanksgiving, when the meal itself is a significant part of the celebration.
